Looking for the perfect gift for the Android tablet owners in your life?
Well Google has just made things a little easier by rolling out gift cards that customers can use to purchase apps, movies, music and eBooks from the Google Play store.
The company announced on its Google Play's Google+ page that it will begin selling gift cards at retailers including RadioShack, Target and GameStop. While the Internet giant neglected to mention when the cards will be available, Wal-Mart is said to start carrying the cards before the end of the month.
Gift cards for Google Play will come in denominations of $10, $25 and $50, and will only be available in the United States, with no word yet from Google on the release timing for other countries. The cards will have no fees, never expire and have a redemption code beneath a scratch-off panel. The code can be entered on Android mobile devices, such as Sammy's latest Galaxy Note 10.1 or on the Google Play website.
In addition to buying content, the gift cards can be used to purchase in-app items like extra levels, add-on packs, and virtual currency. However, users cannot use the cards toward subscription or accessory and hardware purchases, like the Google Nexus 7. With a maximum limit of $2,000, the Google Play balance can only be topped up using gift cards, with funds going into the users' balance, though recipients will be unable to split the cost of a single purchase between their Google Play balance and another form of payment, such as credit cards.
With more than 500,000 Android games and apps currently offered in the Google Play store, gift card recipients will have a lot to choose from, but will they be better served with library offerings from Amazon? Be sure to check out which content service for Android tablets reigns supreme before picking up a Google Play gift card for a friend!
