Barnes & Noble to Offer the Nook Line Across the Pond in October

Barnes & Noble has announced the first international expansion of the Nook line, with the book retailer setting its sights on our friends across the pond, bringing its line of eReaders and online book store to the United Kingdom this fall.
Beginning in October, UK customers will be able to purchase the Nook SimpleTouch and its Glow Light-equipped sibling through the storefront, though for what price remains to be seen. Barnes & Noble neglected to mention how exactly the prices will translate to British Pounds in the announcement.
The company also forgot to point out if and when the Nook Tablet will be making its debut in the land of tea and crumpets, despite the new British website displaying the device. Nevertheless, customers will be able to browse and buy from the Nook online book store, which features a catalog of over 2.5-million titles.
The international push will likely help Barnes & Noble compete with Amazon in the budding British eBook market. Despite being the largest bookstore chain in the United States, Barnes & Noble will have to prepare itself for a game of catch-up, as Amazon has had a presence in the UK for years. In May, the online retailer rooted its global growth by signing an agreement with Waterstone's to sell the Kindle eReader in its chain of 300 stores.
With eBook adoption quickly growing in markets outside of the United States, it looks like the international eReader race could be heating up with this expansion. While Barnes & Noble was spare on the details of specific launch dates for the UK, the company said it would announce partnerships with "leading retailers" in Britain at a later time.
