Western Digital Announces the My Passport Edge

67030

Today Western Digital announced its latest addition to the My Passport portable hard drive family, the My Passport Edge. The new ultra sleek portal drives are currently available for both PC and Mac users, though there are differences between the two versions.
Both versions for the new drive come with 500GB capacity, are USB 3.0 compatible though they also offer USB 2.0 compatibility as well, and will come with a USB connection cable. Additionally both versions of the device are exceptionally thin around 9.5 mm, thanks to the microscopic internal hard drive that is only 7mm thick.
Windows
The Windows version has a premium-finish plastic cover and includes WD SmartWare software, which protects user's information by running continuous automatic backups.  The device comes preformatted in NTFS.
Mac
The Mac version on the other hand is designed specifically to complement Apple's portable computers, namely the MacBook Pro and Air with an all-aluminum exterior. The all metal casing not only serves to make the device coalesce with Apple's devices, it also protects the drive adding a level of welcomed durability. The drive comes preformatted in HFS+ and supports Apple Time machine.
Though both of these versions exist, either version of My Passport Edge can potentially work for either PC or Mac, once it is reformatted for the proper file system. Both versions of the device are available now and cost $110 and $120 for the PC and Mac versions respectively and offer a three-year warranty.
