HP Giving Away Two Years of Free 4G Service with Every Pavilion dm1 Laptop

As it said on the front page, we're big fans of HP's Pavilion dm1 around here. It offers a unique design and a very good build quality without taking up too much room or weight in your laptop bag. It's even one of the more affordable lightweight options out there - at 3.5ish  pounds, you won't be mistaking it for that NEC LaVie I sort of fell in love with sawat IDF last week, but at $400 or so, you won't be missing the NEC's pricetag, either.

The news today isn't that HP is updating the dm1 with anything new, but they are packing in something cool - two full years of free 4G service, courtesy of T-Mobile. T-Mo's service isn't quite as fast as LTE in our experience, but it more than gets the job done, and hey - it's totally free, with no contracts or service requirements. If you aren't in an area with T-Mobile's 42Mbps-rated HSPA+ service, it will degrade pretty gracefully to 3G.
HP isn't looking to lose their shirts in this deal, though, and to that end, you'll be limited to just 200MB of free service per month. Still, that's not bad - 200MB is enough to send email when you really need to, check on maps while you're on the go, browse a couple of text-heavy websites...you get the idea. HP talks about using the data to "stream entertainment", but that's sort of unlikely, unless you're limiting things to Spotify.
In addition to the 200MB of free monthly 4G data, HP is partnering with Box to award customers a free 25GB cloud storage account. Given the prices for cloud file storage these days, 25GB is pretty great. It isn't the first time HP has partnered with Box; when the ill-fated TouchPad tablet went on sale, customers were given free 50GB accounts for life.
